Re-entering the industry earlier this year has left me impressed—impressed by the people, the partnerships, but most importantly - the mobile credentials for access control. Three years ago, the industry was just beginning to adopt cloud-based access control systems and mobile BLE credentials. Now, we have higher security and a better user experience than ever before with the Wavelynx Wallet Solution.
The rapid adoption of cloud-based access control solutions highlights how consumers' comfort with technology in their personal lives has seamlessly transferred to the workplace. This widespread acceptance has also made hesitations about network based devices largely a thing of the past. With external monitoring solutions like Securithings, we ensure these devices are trusted, operational, and secure. The industry has truly advanced in the way we listen to users and provide modernized solutions.
With the adoption of cloud and network based devices, I’m not surprised that the advancements and innovations in mobile were next. I am so impressed with the experience of using my mobile wallet to access a building. With the introduction of Apple Wallet and Google Wallet for access control, we are now able to utilize the built in security of the mobile device. Security is no longer just about rigid rules and regulations or departments erecting barriers. It's about protection, both physical and digital, combined with a simple, unparalleled user experience that truly brings a smile to my face daily.
1. Wallet verifies a user’s identity and admins truly know who’s walking in their building.
As the industry begins to adopt mobile wallet credentials, we recognize the security advantages, as it ties credentials to individuals and verifies their identity using the device's built in security. In addition to that, there is an option to enable multi factor authentication at the reader, prompting a user to use their biometric or passcode to authenticate.
2. Credentials can be instantly distributed - and revoked.
Losing a phone, typically reported in 22 minutes, poses less risk than losing a badge, often reported after 28 days. As soon as the phone is marked as ‘lost’ the credentials are instantly revoked from the device. In my case, my credential was provisioned to my phone and wearable before I even came into the office for my first day. The ease of managing credentials from an administrative standpoint is exponentially improved with wallet credentials compared to physical ones. Administrators can issue or revoke credentials from anywhere at any time, streamlining the entire process.
3. Wallet offers an unparalleled user experience.
Speaking of my first day, I walked into the office juggling my work bag, lunch, water bottle, coffee, and new hire paperwork. To enter the building, all I had to do was hold my watch up to the device, and the door opened. No need to put everything down to fish out a badge or phone, or open up an app. This is a huge improvement over BLE mobile credentials where an app has to be opened.
The strides the industry has made creating the wallet solution and the early stages of the adoption of wallet make me excited to be a part of progressing it into the mainstream market.
I thank you for the warm welcome back and I look forward to the next five years and being part of the industry's exciting journey. We're on a rocket ship—buckle up.
